Winter Festival is Coming
The Women’s Community League of Weston (WCL) is planning a first-ever winter festival on the Weston Town Green on Dec. 9.
Regina Hajjar, president of the WCL, said her group is hoping the winter event will attract families to Town Center and draw the community together. “We anticipate residents of all ages will attend the resumption of the Town Green lighting,” Hajjar said at a recent selectmen’s meeting. “Weston Town Center hasn’t had a formal lighting celebration for years.” Hajjar said the Women’s Community League wants to re-establish the tradition with new LED energy efficient lighting that would be “nondenominational.” She said the WCL is working with the town’s Department of Public Works to hopefully get up to a dozen trees lit. Other possible highlights include a skating rink with floodlights on the Town Green, food trucks on Town House Road, and establishing Town Hall as “warm hut” with light refreshments and face painting.
Other plans in the works include caroling by Weston music groups, such as the Weston High School a cappella groups, Roxbury Weston Preschool and the Friendly Society, and a visit from Santa on a Weston fire truck.
“I think it sounds like a great event,” said selectmen Chairman Harvey Boshart.
