The Scholarship Fund provides merit and need-based scholarships to graduating Weston High School students. In 1930, the scholarship program began by awarding $150 to one Weston High School senior. Since then, WCL has donated over $1,000,000 to graduating Weston High School students.
General Philanthropy Fund
Beyond scholarship, the WCL provides support, in both time and money, to many charitable organizations and to critical projects for the town. Past donations have substantially improved town buildings such as the Josiah Smith Tavern and Barn, the Weston Public Library, and the Community Center. Charities which WCL will support in 2020-21 include Weston CARES Fund, Dignity Matters, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Hope & Comfort, Council on Aging Food Bank, St Vincent de Paul – St Julia Parish, and REACH Beyond Domestic Violence.
Winter Festival/Tree Lighting Fund
WCL’s signature event is the town-wide Winter Festival, established in 2018 to kick off the organization’s centennial celebration and to foster our legacy of Building Community Since 1919. What started as a simple tree lighting idea morphed into a fun-filled, activity packed afternoon for the entire community. This year, due to the pandemic, the Winter Festival will scale back to its original concept. A simple tree lighting is planned to continue the momentum and spirit of the Winter Festival until it can return in its full tradition.
